100 years ago--in 1909--Sigmund Freud came to Clark to give 5 lectures on psychoanalysis. "5 Lectures on Psychoanalysis" (colloquially known as the Clark lectures) give a good introduction to Freudian psychoanalysis.

I agree with Roth's closing statements in that though we sometimes think Freud and his theories are outdated, there is still quite a bit of validity to considering his ideas. The messages are absolutely worth hearing, especially if they help us figure out something about ourselves (or even just make us think/ send us in a positive direction). Roth seems to really dismiss the pharmaceutical industry in his brief reference to their attempt to convince us that our problems are about chemicals in our body. I can't tell if he is disagreeing or not, but either way if he is going to break into that argument, even just a little, he needs to expand on it.
