Writing Style: Yay or Nay?

Puig's writing style certainly is different from a tradional novelist's. The reader is able to see the main character's thoughts in a much better light than simply a third-person narrative. I think this style is even more effective than an omnicient narrator because the reader is really able to see into the depths of the mind, including forbidden thoughts. The reader is able to see multiple points of view, which I think is much more interactive than just sitting there witnessing one view for 200 pages. This way, the reader is able to make connections and really see just how complex the human mind is.

I personally find the writing style to be a little distracting/choppy, but I can definately see the benefits of it as well. Anyone else?

  1. I have mixed feelings about Puig's writing style. On one hand I appreciate how his disjointed style disrupts the notion of time as a neat and simple teleological line. I think his jumping around of ideas and dialogue between characters portrays how humans think and speak much more honestly and acurately. At the same time it is certainly discombobulating and frustrating to follow at times.
